Chiropractic Board – policy on professional development
The Chiropractic Board believes that the responsibility for the professional development of each member of the profession is the responsibility of individual chiropractors.
The Board believes that individual chiropractors, working within the framework of the Board’s Competency-Based Professional Standards for Chiropractors document, should address their own professional development needs.
At the completion of each year chiropractors will be asked to self-certify their professional development for the previous year, in the knowledge that they may be subject to audit of that certification at any time.
Audits of chiropractors self-certification will be undertaken as follows:
- When the competence of any chiropractor is bought to the attention of the Board by agencies such as the Health & Disability Commissioner, the Ministry of Health or ACC; or
- When the Board decides that a review is required.
To assist chiropractors to undertake appropriate professional development programmes, the Board intends to work with the NZ Chiropractors Association to identify, develop, promote and fund suitable programmes.
