A:Initial registration costs $153 plus the cost of an Annual Practising Certificate. Registration alone does not entitle you to practise chiropractic in New Zealand.
The cost of an Annual Practising Certificate will be determined by when you apply.
If you apply between 1 April and 30 November - $1124.
If you apply between 1 December and 31 March - $408.
Q:How much is the Board's Registration Examination?
A:The examination process is self-funding, meaning that fees from candidates must cover all expenses related to the examination process. The cost of the Registration Examination is $3150NZD.
Q:I am concerned about the practice and/or health of a fellow chiropractor, what do I do?
A:If you have concerns regarding the practice and/or health of a fellow chiropractor, you should contact the Board's Registrar of 04 474 0703. The Board will take all reasonable steps to ensure your identity will be kept confidential if requested.
Q:I am moving overseas (other than Australia) to practise, what do I need to do?
A:You will need to contact the Registration Authority in the country you are going to in order to find out their requirements. You will however require a Certificate of Good Standing from the New Zealand Board.
Q:I am moving to Australia to practise, what do I need to do?
A:You will need to hold both registration and a current Annual Practising Certificate to be eligible for registration in Australia via Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition. You can download the form from the, Chiropractic Board of Australia's website
Q:I am not happy with a service I received from a chiropractor and want to make a complaint , what do I do?
A:In the first instance, you should contact the Health and Disability Commissioner (HDC) on 0800 112233. The HDC will require your complaint in writing.
Q:I am only going to be working for a short period, is there a reduced fee?
A:The Board currently has two fees, between 1st April and 30 September - $1100 and between 1st October and 31st March - $400. The Board will shortly be considering the issue of introducing a "locum" fee.
Q:I have changed my name, what do I need to do?
A:You need to provide the Board with a certified copy of your Marriage Certificate or other legal documentation attesting to the change. This must be mailed to the Board. The Board cannot accept this documentation by fax or email.
Q:I have moved, what do I need to do?
A:You need to advise the Board, in writing, of your new address details. This can be by mail or email and must include details of whether the change is a mailing, work or residential change.
Q:I hold a qualification from outside of New Zealand, how do I get registered?
A:If you hold a qualification from outside of New Zealand or Australia, you will need to sit the Board's Registration Examination.
Q:I need a Certificate of Good Standing, what do I need to do?
A:You need to download the request form from our website and pay the required fee of $50. A Certificate of Good Standing must be sent directly from the Board to the Registration Authority where you are intending to register so be sure to provide the mailing details.

Q:What do I do if it is after 31st March?
A:You will need to complete the relevant "restoration" form and pay the required fee. Please note however that your status date will commence from the date the restoration is approved and will not be backdated to 1 April. This will also have an affect on your insurance and ACC claims.
Q:What is an Annual Practising Certificate?
A:To work in New Zealand you must be both registered and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC). The cost of an APC depends upon the time of year you apply - between 1st April and 30 September - $1100 and between 1st October and 31st March - $400.
Q:What is involved in the Board's Registration Examination?
A:The Board's Registration Examination is held over two days (approx 1 1/2 hours per day) and contains two clinically based components tested by viva-voce and oral examination/interview style format and reflects the practice of Chiropractic in New Zealand. The Examination evaluates the knowledge and application of skills, behaviors and abilities and tests a candidate’s understanding and performance of safe, effective application of the principles and processes of chiropractic practice in New Zealand. Q:When will I be notified of my Examination results?
A:Results are released to candidates 3 weeks after completion of the examination.
Q:Where can I find a list of accredited programs?
A:Go to www.ccea.com.au. The CCEA is the accrediting agency for the Australasian region.
Q:Where can I study to be a chiropractor in New Zealand?

Q:When do Annual Practising Certificates need to be renewed?
A:The Board will send out an renewal invoice in late January each year. This invoice needs to be paid prior to 31st March. If your renewal is not received in the office prior to 31st March, your status will be changed to non-practising which will affect both your insurance and ACC claims.
