Continuing Competence

The Board is in the process of finalising its formal Continuing Professional Development program.  Once it has approved the format, it will be released for consultation.

For the 2011/2012 renewal process, the Board will continue to utilise its current format which is that individual chiropractors, working within the framework of the Board’s Competency-Based Professional Standards for Chiropractors document, should address their own professional development needs.

The Chiropractic Board believes that the responsibility for the professional development of each member of the profession is the responsibility of individual chiropractors.

Chiropractors will be asked to self-certify their professional development for the previous year, in the knowledge that they may be subject to audit of that certification at any time.

Audits of chiropractors’ self-certification will be undertaken as follows:

  • When the competence of any chiropractor is brought to the attention of the Board by agencies such as the Health and Disability Commissioner, the Ministry of Health or the Accident Compensation Commission; or
  • When the Board decides that a review is required.
To assist chiropractors to undertake appropriate professional development programmes, the Board intends to work with relevant stakeholders to identify, develop, promote and fund suitable programmes.
